Inspirational Client Story!
Meet Regina Beeby, long term client at Come Alive Fitness. Regina's story of health and fitness includes overcoming breast cancer, shoulder surgery and back problems, but it is her attitude that inspires us most: "ailments pose challenges but with creativity and dedication you can always improve your health".
Regina grew up in Brazil and always enjoyed sports such as tennis, skiing and squash. In her 20's she had her first serious encounter with back problems and knew she had to loose weight and do strength exercises for her back to get better.
She came to Canada in her 30's, raising 2 boys, and took up Yoga and Pilates to develop a better sense of listening to her own body. 10 years ago she was diagnosed with breast cancer and went through reconstructive surgery using her back muscle. The workouts became more gentle but important to help her through chemo and lift her mental spirits.
In 2008 Regina met Annika and started personal training with her on a weekly basis. Little by little the workouts started to get harder. "I realized that even in my late 40's I could still improve my body - especially my strength and balance".
2 years ago, she went on a biketrip to Italy which entailed riding anywhere from 40-90km per day for 6 days. "My goal was not to ride in the van!". She got herself a bike and Annika designed a training plan that included riding around 3/week. She logged more than 700km in 3 months, and she did not ride in the van!
In 2015 she challenge herself with a bike race in Cozumel - the 80km Gran Fondo, and she went to the race all on her own! She also completed the Gran Fondo in New York last year in 4hrs 42 min and decided to return this year completing it in 3hrs 53min - a 50min improvement she contributes to her 2 spin classes/week and riding on her indoor trainer at home during the winter.
Regina continues to do weekly strength and core training with Annika along with yoga and pilates classes to keep a balanced body. Her achievements stand as inspiration that anything is possible. Or in the wise words of Regina:
'It is never too late to help the body keep up with your dreams!".
Are you looking to lose weight?
Try reducing SUGAR and see what happens!
Sugar is everywhere these days, in our drinks, pasta sauces, dressings, breads etc. Did you know the recommended daily intake is 35grams for men and 25grams for women - that is 9 tsp for men and 6 tsp for women. We easily digest way more than that in a day through all the "hidden sugars".
Sugar, not fat, is the enemy. If you are looking to loose weight start by cutting out sugars from your diet. Drink water and green tea instead of juices and sweetened coffee drinks. Start reading labels and aim to eat less foods with labels! Go for fruits, veggies, lean meats, nuts and avocado instead.
To educate and inspire yourself and your family, start by watching "That Sugar Film" - great documentary on netflix!
